sing

[ For the choir director: A psalm of David, to be sung to the tune “Death of the Son.” ]
I will praise you,Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done.*

Is it bad that I have started singing carols to myself already??? What is it in us that allows our subconscious to play a song over and over! The one thing we wish we could forget, is on repeat! I find this really annoying, so to combat it I have stopped listening to music that I don't want to be annoyed or ashamed to have stuck in my head. Especially because I often sing aloud when by myself. When these songs have good lyrics and actually lift my spirits and encourage me to keep going, I can't say it's a bad thing!

(Oh come, Oh come Emmanuel)

One month until Christmas. The day in the calender where people around the world remember God entering the world.
Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.**

Where do you sing? Do you have songs for different moods? I often sing to myself. I sing "I've got the joy joy joy joy, down in my heart" when I'm feeling a bit exciting. I like to sing "Take my life and let it be ever only all for thee..." when I'm feeling selfish. I sing "make me a channel of your peace" when I want to share with someone. I sing "I caste all my cares upon you" when I feel burdened with too many ideas and worries and I'm not sure what to do. I sing "practice being godly, never give up, make it your aim" when I am trying to learn a new skill or when I know I am failing. When I see an amazing sunset or storm or the stars I sing "In describable, Uncontainable". Having a song for a mood, or a song for a situation is great! I often find myself relaxing and trusting God, turning to His strong and capable hands instead of my own weak ones.

And not only for myself, but I think it's also wise to share songs with other people. Encouraging others and building them up. Bringing joy to their life, or comfort. Seriously though, how awesome is God, to make a promise to us humans, and then keep it to the point of intervening on our behalf!

Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord!***
